This project is designed for a private residence located within a woodland area. The design intent was to create a garden that blends harmoniously with the surrounding forest environment. Foliage in varying tones was combined with hardscape materials that integrate seamlessly into the natural setting.
As requested by the owners, the residence, set within a large estate, required a practical garden near the house for daily use. This posed a significant design challenge due to the building's location on a sloping site. As a solution, terraced gardens were constructed adjacent to the house using timber railway sleepers. The terraces, set on different levels, were strategically arranged to preserve uninterrupted views from the interior.
The slopes around the house were reshaped to blend the garden visually with its natural surroundings and were planted with drought-tolerant grasses to create a lush and sustainable appearance. A pathway was constructed from a compacted mixture of sand, gravel, and soil to create a natural appearance. Steps constructed from hollowed-out railroad ties, filled with concrete and gravel for slip resistance, provide access across the sloped site. The landscape lighting was designed to serve dual purposes: functional illumination for pathways and ambient lighting to highlight the garden.
